What do these two songs have in common?
The Polecats – “Make a Circuit With Me”
Morrissey – “Pregnant For The Last Time”
When you line up two rockabilly songs in a row, they appear to have a lot in common (to the point of plagiarism, some might say). But there’s more than meets the eye with these two.
Besides tall, tall hair and a sweet upright bass, they both feature Martin “Boz” Boorer, England’s gift to rockabilly, boppin’ around on guitar. I’ve loved that Polecats song for years, and few are nearer and dearer to my heart than Mozzer, but I had never made the connection.
I’m going to see Morrissey this spring, when he’s on his Years of Refusal tour. I wonder if Boz will be out with him?
